Mother's reply after hearing those words come from her 4-year old son....
Stunned silence.
Then a short discussion regarding girl/boy relationships and what else can make your heart feel broken.

Yikes. Yeah, it always happens that way -- no knowing where they've absorbed it, they're little sponges at that age, and everything's surging in. How fortunate to have you there to do a little spot interpretation / explication!
That almost breaks my heart that you had to have that conversation.

It's tough explaining relationships to children in general it feels like.
